How to participate:

Forum vs. Blog
Use the forum for questions for the whole group. If your question is better suited to a group, post it in the group.

Create Blog posts for your longer, reflective writing. A blog is like an article, and not a good place to post a question.

Your own space
Please edit your own page. You can change the look (to reflect your individual preferences). You can even add widgets. Your page reminds you of your discussions, and more.

Also, consider using an avatar or an image of yourself in your profile so we can enjoy a more visual sense of community.

Hi Tracy - This is my first year too, and I'm doing the same thing. I am collecting the first essay - Metamorphosis 1978 or 1999 - tomorrow. This is been a good learning experience but I wish I had done it a little differently. Usually, I work a ...

With each literary text we cover in class, students choose from one of five free response prompts from previous AP exams. For example, after reading Twelfth Night, students choose from 1978, 1985, 1993, 1994, 1997. I'd like to know if you have any...

Hi Nicole, I do not have any resources for this book (in fact I am sorry to say I have never read it), but wanted to say, please don't get discouraged if you get no responses to your request. It may be simply that others do not have anything to of...

I am planning on teaching Ralph Ellison's The Invisible Man. I have some comprehension and discussion questions, but I don't have any means of formal assessment yet. I am hoping to have a few choices, including a paper or a project. Does anyone ha...

Hi Dawn, I meant the scoring guide, but both would be interesting. Probably, the scoring guide is too simple, the more I think about it.

Writing Assessment 1 Reply

Typically our district has been able to keep AP classes small. Due to scheduling issues this year, I have half of my 108 students in two AP Language classes. I'm fooling around with a few ideas reg...

What do you do with critical theory? As I look back on my college lit classes, I recall more interest in critical analysis of literature than proper use of terms like antimetabole and aposiopesis. ...

I am pretty sure that I know the answer, but just to be sure - the Bible does not count as a work of literature the students can reference on the Open Response portion of the AP Lit. exam, correct?...

After a week

After a week of pre-assessments I have discovered I have lots of work to do - but being organized and having an online class to more quickly disseminate information I feel confident I can do more, with less time.

The writing is definitely a target - students need to understand how to read the prompt and answer it properly, instead of engaging in tangents when they don't know what to write.

AP Certification

I just took a 4 day seminar and got certification to teach AP Literature. Was there an actual requirement that I have this certification in order to teach in high school? In order for the AP Board to recognize the class and let students take the test at the end of the year. I ask this, because I think I could teach the Language and Composition (rhetoric) AP class without having to take the seminar.

does anyone know?
