Welcome to AP English

How to participate:

Forum vs. Blog
Use the forum for questions for the whole group. If your question is better suited to a group, post it in the group.

Create Blog posts for your longer, reflective writing. A blog is like an article, and not a good place to post a question.

Your own space
Please edit your own page. You can change the look (to reflect your individual preferences). You can even add widgets. Your page reminds you of your discussions, and more.

Also, consider using an avatar or an image of yourself in your profile so we can enjoy a more visual sense of community.

Welcome to this ning! Have fun.

This was so useful! Thanks for sharing! This year I don't really have the time or the money to switch up the texts, but I might throw out one or two as the year goes on. I haven't read all of our assigned ones yet, but I'm hoping they all have con...
Tracy, Thank you for the wonderful advice. I've thought about using the same texts as the teacher I'll eventually replace. I wish you luck in preparing for your new role, exciting and daunting all at once. I just spoke (via e-mail) with a close f...
Ginny, My teaching experience is very similar to yours, although I've never even taught an honors class. I am entering my third year and am teaching AP Lit next year for the 1st time on a 2 out of 3 trimesters schedule (24 weeks total, 70 minute c...

I found out last week that I would be teaching a year-long AP Lit course during the 2009-2010 school year. Previously having taught at a school that did not offer AP courses, my teaching experience has involved mostly freshmen and sophomore litera...
YES! Great idea. I was just introduced to think-alouds this past year, and love the idea. I had thought about applying it to the reading of literature, but had not thought about using it to help students work through MC problems.
Letting them choose the question from the list is a very good idea. Not only does it get them familiar with the range of questions, but it also gives you a variety of responses to read.
Actually, that is what I am considering myself. I found my way to this site by doing one of the tasks for a summer on-line workshop dealing with web 2.0. Ironically, there is no mention of "nings" in the course. I will have to look more at the str...

Teaching Song of Solomon

One of the previous AP teachers used to teach this, and I just read it for the first time to see whether I'd be interested in teaching it. I noticed a lot of motifs (flight, names, etc) that I woul...

Best things to do to prep for first year teaching AP Lit 2 Replies

Next year will be my first year teaching AP Lit. I've brought home materials from the previous teachers and lots of books to read and re-read to decide what to teach, but I was wondering what peopl...

Using a Ning in your AP Class 1 Reply

I am toying with the idea of creating a Ning for my AP lit classes. Has anyone out there done so and how do you use it with your students? Edit: I have looked over Classroom 2.0 and other resource...

The Jeopardy! Tryout Experience, or How I Narrowly Escaped Death TWICE!

On June 1, 2009 I set out on I-65 from Indianapolis. Destination: Chicago and my tryout for Jeopardy! I left town at 4 PM Indy time, hoping to avoid rush hour on both ends. My cousin Charlie was gracious enough (5 days before his wedding) to let me stay at his and Kate's place for the night. My scheduled appointment time was 11:30 AM Chicago time.

The drive was uneventful until I reached Lafayette, about an hour and a half later. It started to rain. No problem. I've driven in rain before. The s… Continue

Figuring out what would be best online support for the following year.

Currently have a EDU 2.0 website class, a Edmodo site, and a page using both Wetpaint and Weebly. I think the simplest would be the best - but both Weebly and Edmodo seem to do the trick. I'm not too much a fan of wikis and some blogs since they are blocked on our campus.
